The Albion Band - Rise Up Like The Sun (1978 UK)



Grupo de folk-rock británico fundado en 1972 por el bajista Ashley "Tyger" Hutchings, esposo de la cantante Shirley Collins y ex miembro de bandas como Fairport Convenion y Steeleye Span.
La Albion Country Band surgió como grupo de acompañamiento de Shirley, antes de comenzar a girar y a grabar como conjunto independiente. Con Collins publicarían el disco "No Roses" (1971).
Sus componentes originales eran, además de Hutchings, el cantante Royston Wood, el guitarrista Steve Hashley, el guitarra y vocalista Simon Nicol, el batería Dave Mattacks y la violinista Sue Draheim.
El grupo era un proyecto de folk británico tradicional de infusión eléctrica, sin perder el cimiento acústico y las reminiscencias medievales y Morris Dance, una tradición folk inglesa procedente de la época de las Cruzadas y de ascendencia musulmana, con bailes enérgicos de tipo ritual.

La característica durante toda la historia de la banda fue el constante movimiento entre los miembros de la formación, pasando por sus filas importantes personajes del mundo folk como Richard Thompson, Linda Thompson o la propia Shirley Collins.
En 1973 y con el grupo integrado por Ashley Hutchings, Simon Nicol, la cantante y multinstrumentista Sue Harris, el batería Roger Swallow, el guitarrista Martin Carthy y el teclista, acordeonista y vocalista John Kirkpatrick, la Albion Country Band grabaría en Island el Lp "Battle of the field" (1973), un disco producido por John Wood que no vería la luz hasta 1976.
La naturaleza cambiante de la Albion Country Band segregó diferentes ramificaciones y reunificaciones con otros nombres como The Albion Dance Band o simplemente The Albion Band.
Con el nombre de The Albion Dance Band publicarían el interesante disco "The prospect before us" (1977) y bajo el apelativo de The Albion Band notables Lps como "Rise up like the sun" (1978) o "Lark rise to candleford" (1980).
Esta disgregación interna provocó que cada componente colaborase con un sinfín de bandas del mismo estilo, a la vez que lanzaban al mercado sus propias propuestas en solitario.
La Albion Band, siempre bajo los auspicios de Ashley Hutchings, se iría renovando con el tiempo con jóvenes talentos del folk surgido en las Islas Británicas.
